Carettochelys.com is a site dedicated to the accurate and up to date information on Australasian Turtles of the families Chelidae and Carettochelydidae. We are building an extensive PDF library where you can download scientific papers on these species and also present a significant number of these papers in web form where we can do so.

Our central mission is to be a source of information. Sources on anything to do with these turtles wether that be the scientific study or the captive husbandry of them. We strive for accuracy and accountability to that accuracy. Hence where possible all information is cited and those publications are available here.

June 26, 2006: It is a sad day that the giant tortoise known as Harriet at Australia Zoo died on Friday morning. This was a grand old lady whom I had the please of doing research on over the years. Determining that her most probably history was that she was collected by Charles Darwin in 1830. The paper where I published this can be found on the literature section. She died at the age of 176 years, as reported by the senior vet she seems to have had heart failure.

January 11, 2006: I have started adding as many of the original descriptions of Australasian species as I can, I have almost all of them. They will be available as both pdf downloads and for reading online. I believe the disemmination of taxonomic works is of paramount importance hence I hope people find this useful. Any researchers who think I have left their descriptions out please feel free to contact me and E-mail me a pdf. I will happily make them available. Please note though this is a work in progress. You will find them in the Literature section.
